Kevin and I- having not read the books- even said that they would probably go that direction as the story continued. I sure am glad to hear that they do.
The one thing that still makes me really sad is that it takes violence and killing in media (which is viewed essentially for entertainment) to send the message that violence and killing for entertainment is not ok. Seems kinda counterproductive- but since we live in a reactive society rather than a proactive society, it may the only way to communicate that message.
I guess it is the hippie in me- its seems like its a similar tactic to starting a war to bring peace...seems like there should be a way to promote the value without compromising it in the process. But honestly I have no suggestions for how to do that in this case.Kevin/Chelsiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03705982254022621595noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3259184536253470706.post-72363763282940165672012-03-31T17:14:57.060-04:002012-03-31T17:14:57.060-04:00I will steal a line from a review that i recently ...I will steal a line from a review that i recently read of the movie....one of the most important themes from the story is the idea that "this is what happens when a culture fully embraces armed assault as entertainment."
The statement was referring to the citizens of the capital embracing the hunger games and all the violence that goes along with it as entertainment. The movie in no way is endorsing the violence, quite the opposite in fact. I am in agreement with you that many are numb to the violence portrayed in media today, and this story agrees with you too! Thats the statement that it is trying to make. As with most books turned movie, the books give more detail and insight to the characters and situations than the movie provided, which may have a huge impact on people's opinions of the film. As the story unfolds in the 2nd and 3rd books (and movies), the themes of the story become clearer and a lot of things change. While those who leave the theater with the notion that this was "just another violent movie" may not have gotten the point with this movie, they will more than likely return to seen the next two (or decide to read the books) and hopefully realize the importance of the message, violence and killing for entertainment is NOT ok.lkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09860157211195888446noreply@blogger.com
